Collectible Fat Tire Bicycles
I do not know what you would call me when it comes to old bicycles. I am too poor to be considered a true collector, but I have managed to collect four bikes that were made before 1973. Old bikes are my hobby, so I guess that makes me an "enthusiast". For some reason, most of my collection includes J.C. Higgins bikes. I was given a 1948 J.C. Higgins and the rest I have found in yard sales. I am not a professional restorer, but I can restore a bike to look pretty good. I have had many complements on my finished products. When I restore a bike, I completely disassemble it and clean the oil and rust off each part. I sand the frame smooth, prime, and paint it with several coats of paint then a clear coat. All bearings are cleaned and greased. If the chrome will not clean up good, I sand it smooth and paint it with a bright silver paint. I could never afford to get the parts re-chromed, but at least ensure the rust is removed.
I have attempted to start an antique and collectable bike club in Montgomery, but have not found many people that are interested. Apparently, no one collects old bikes in this area. Oh well, I enjoy the bikes on fun rides with my family anyway.
Here are pictures of my collection:

Hey, I won a Krylon painting contest with this baby! Not bad for an old plugger, huh?
